  Friends of Rush River

The next FORR meeting is Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brass Top in Henderson, Minnesota--Please Attend!

Old Business

The Friends of Rush River met on Wednesday, March 26th, 2008.

The 2009 Fundraiser dance will be held March 7, 2009. Doug Traxler will supply the band. We sold 632 advance tickets this year, and 433 at the door.
Tony Savage will have a wagon in the Henderson Sauerkraut Days parade for FORR. We will donate the money for candy to be thrown. The parade is June 29th.
We are checking into the cost of speed limit signs for the park. They will say ‘Children at Play’, ’10 MPH’.
The Spring Clean up will be held April 26th at the park. We will supply food for workers if Thrivent is not donating. We will be picking up garbage, building picnic tables, and fixing the money box on Knob Hill and any other work needed.
There was debate on building a shelter at the park. The county will supply up to $11,790 for new construction of a building. A committee will provide the location, size and requirements for this shelter at the April meeting. The FORR will then vote on whether the building should be built. Pros and cons provided for the construction include:
Pros
Nice place to have picnics, parties
Will supply shelter from sun or rain
Will attract more people to the park

If the county supplies the funds, it will not deplete funds for park maintenance

Cons/concerns
Is this in a flood plain?
Horse people and non horse people in close proximity
Will the location interfere with horse camping?
This is first come, first serve. Will the same people have this time after time?
Will attract more people to the park
Will dogs under the shelter be an issue?
Fires under shelter
Who will keep this clean?
Is camping allowed under the shelter?
How will rules be enforced?
