| Horses need a Flu/Rhino booster and fall dewormer.
After the first frost, horses should get their fall wormers. You should make sure to use a product with ivermectin in it to kill bots! The gals at Minnesota Valley Vet recommend using Equimax which also gets tapeworms because it contains Praziquantel. Tapeworms have shown to be one of the leading causes of colic.
Fall is also a good time to make sure your horses teeth have been floated. Having your horses teeth in good shape will allow them to better utilize their feed over the winter months and help to prevent weight loss. | |

| The AVMA defines core vaccinations as those “that protect from diseases that are endemic to a region, those with potential public health significance, required by law, virulent/highly infectious, and/or those posing a risk of severe disease. Core vaccines have clearly demonstrated efficacy and safety, and thus exhibit a high enough level of patient benefit and low enough level of risk to justify their use in the majority of patients.” The following equine vaccines meet these criteria and are identified as ‘core’ in these guidelines:
• Tetanus
• Eastern/Western Equine Encephalomyelitis
• West Nile Virus
• Rabies
