After a very dry spring with almost no April showers, the rain has finally arrived! And not too soon for the little ponies with their foot troubles. The wet, softened up, ground sure makes their step go a little better than that dry, old, hard ground.
May 24 was a huge day! Faith and Dixie charmed the challenged adults at the “Pony Picnic” in Blue Earth. We were very excited about the prospect of taking them but kind of wondered how it would go. In a word - Beautifully!! We brought along a bucket of brushes and the ponies loved all the attention complete with grooming. The picnic-goers handled, brushed, and loved on the little ponies for a few hours. After their fun-filled day, the little ponies were very happy to get back home. Once in the pasture, Faith and Dixie both stretched out for a good, long nap.
Shadow had her first outing on May 30 as some very close friends asked if we could bring a pony to the family graduation party. At first Shadow was a little antsy but quickly settled in to the new surroundings. She loaded like a dream and also enjoyed a nice, long nap when she got home but not before she greeted each pasture mate.
And now Peanut wonders when she will get to go visiting - we have plans for her!
Abbey is showing real progress with her new meal arrangements. She is such a loving, giving horse, Bruce remains with her while she eats to be sure the “pesty little ponies” don’t get her rations. She always knuckles under and lets them have her food unless he stays out there to scurry the little ones in the other direction.
The balance of the Sanctuary maintains an even keel. Lucky & April, BJ & Montana, Augie & Magic, happily meet you at the gate each time we go out. We feel quite fortunate to have such a friendly bunch!
We are looking forward to Solstice in Mankato on June 21 at Land of Memories Park. We have several other dates scheduled as well and are searching for more. With the economy the way it is, Misfit Acres is feeling the pinch as far as donations go. These festivals give us a great chance to show off our new merchandise! We are tentatively planning to take Peanut to the Pet Fair at KYSM radio in North Mankato on July 11 for their Pet Fair. This is a new adventure for them so it should be really fun!!
We are busy working on our annual fundraiser as well. October 4 is the date for 2009. We have received some of the first silent auction items and are searching for more. Please remember if you do not collect Coke Reward Codes for your own use, please email them to us. Likewise with the Pamper Points. We use these to build up Misfit Acres accounts and redeem for items for the silent auction. All help is truly appreciated.
