Come On...Is It Spring Yet??

This Winter seems like it just does not want to let go. The recent rains and snow has the pastures solid muck and the horses are getting grumpy sloshing around in the mess. But then who can blame them?
In spite of that, all the "kids" are doing well. Saturday brought trim day for four of the horses. Dixie, Peanut, Lucky, and BJ all got their nails done. Lucky, Peanut, and Dixie are really coming around from their laminitis bouts. All three of them felt the need to play "catch me catch me" just a little.
Normally we do Augie each farrier visit too but recently he strained a muscle in his leg and is just starting to use it again. We thought it best to leave him this time so he would not have to strain to stand on that one. The farrier will be here in two weeks again and we will catch up on him then.
The old boys - Montana and BJ, are fascinated with all the goings on around the place. We have started our spring clean up. We had some cars donated to Misfit Acres as fundraisers. The old boys are busy watching the trucks and trailers being loaded up and hauled away.
Augie and Magic have decided the best place to eat is inside their shelter with all the mud. They prefer "room service".
The month of March brought another wonderful gift to the Sanctuary Horses of Misfit Acres!! The On Shore Foundation of Malibu, CA sent a grant of $2000 to the horses! The On Shore Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Misfit Acres. Their financial gifts have purchased countless bales and bags of feed for the horses. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity.
We did have a very strange instance here on Thursday. Apparently, someone was on the property while we were not here and opened the gates to Augie and Magic's pasture. We discovered this when we went out for evening chores. The gates were closed in a way that Bruce & I never do. We do not know why or who. Please watch your properties for unusual activity.
Just an FYI for everyone - as much as we enjoy visitors to Misfit Acres, we will be unavailable from April 15 until May 2 due to personal schedules. We look forward to resuming visits after these dates.
